THYROID

The vast majority of thyroid hormone deficiency is managed with a simple (but monitored) daily intake of exogenous L-thyroxine (“thyroxine” or “T4”), first discovered in its pure porcine extract form at the Mayo Clinic in 1914 and later successfully synthesised by the British scientists Harrington and Barger in 1927. 

Whilst the majority of patients respond well to treatment with either synthetic T4 and/or synthetic T3, a certain subset of thyroid patients do not appear to respond well.
